Church...welcome to today

How do we do church in today's society? The traditional formats and stuctures of what we know as church are no longer dominating the scene. However we define church - anywhere from a physical structure to the called, gathered, centered and sent people of God - we must be open to the realization that church doesn't happen on Sunday mornings in a brick building anymore.

Take a look at below and ask yourself..."Is this church?"

What do you resonate with? What feelings and emotions does each "church" evoke for you?
We serve a big God. A God that reveals himself in ways that are beyond what our limited minds can comprehend. Just because something does not give us comfort or ideal feelings, does not mean that God is not at work in that context. God has never been a God of comfort, but a God that transforms lives. Look outside your context...don't miss an opportunity to see where God's moving.

  2. Nate-

I feel caught in the middle, saying Yes and Yes! I'm a big fan of tradition, ritual, and liturgy. At the same time I also love "looser" formats for worship, newer music, etc. I've been struggling with this question for a couple weeks now... Is there a place where "traditional persons" and "non-traditional persons" can worship together in fullness, without feeling like they are "giving something up"? Should services be kept separate? (I don't think so) Is blended service with components of many approaches good,or does it fall equally short of an experience for all? Thought provoking questions, and post.

  3. Thanks so much for sharing your post Church… Welcome to today. I can't wait to take this back to some of the baby boomers in my church that would like things to stay the same. They have not opened their minds to the fact that to engage and to connect with this younger generation we have to do something different. What work for Moses, may not work for Joshua that was then and this is now. Bridging the gap of those that are more traditional and at the same time trying to meet the needs of all is going to be a difficult task for the church to tackle.
